Sulthan of stories, Vaikom Mohammed Basheer was reproduced on stage through "Immini Balya Onnu", a play organized by Mathrubhumi, Club FM 104.8 and Kerala Gramam Group at Thrissur. The nostalgic, romantic and emotional memories of Basheer from his 4 popular stories, Mathilukal, Premalekhanam, Hunthrappi Bussatto and Policekarante Makan brought about a new refreshing experience for the crowd who gathered at Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy- Regional Theatre on August 18. The historic stage of Regional Theatre, witnessed the performance of the Radio Jocks who came one by one on stage as different characters. Subbu (Basheer), Priyan (Keshavan Nair), Anjana (Narayani & Saramma), Aaryan (Prisoner- Basheer's friend), Balu (Jail Superintendent) and Shihab Babu (Aniyan Jailor) were the performers in the play. The play "Immini Ballye Onnu" has been directed by Sri Unni Poonithura, a native of Kochi and a familiar figure in the feild of amature theatre for the last two decades
Narration:
Basheer himself came on to the stage as a prisoner and gives a picture of his characters and his emotionsn itself. Keshavan Nair, the hero of the play, shows the fluctuated character of a Govt: employee who loves Saramma, an orphan and won in his attempt as a lover. At the same time, the writer also fell in love with a lady prisoner- Narayani- whome he never met. At the end, the play narrates the mixed feeling of love, through the characters of Basheer, Keshavan Nair, Saramma and Narayani. Aniyan Jailor, Jail Superintendent and the prisoner were also entering the stage to lighten the stage and made the play a historic one
